The team at PickUp Music are excited to be launching memberships for our community. The all-inclusive membership is designed to help followers of PickUp take the next step as musicians and build stronger connections across the PickUp community.
So what’s involved?
The PickUp Music membership provides full access to all of PickUp’s existing masterclasses and a ton of new content, including two new masterclasses by Emily C. Browning and Sam Blakelock. We’re also releasing 20 Song Squads – giving you short, groove-based and quick to learn tunes that are verified ‘Insta-ready’.
We’ve created a new series called ‘5 Minute Lessons’ giving you bite-sized lessons to quickly sharpen your skills. And we have a growing library of fully-produced beats to jam over featuring dope producers. The Artist Toolkit provides actionable insights from established musicians and social media experts. It will help take your career and social media game to the next level, and we’ll be adding to it regularly.
One of the things we’re most excited about is the new members-only PickUp Music Forum. The forum will be the beating heart of the PickUp Music community. It will enable us to build a stronger community than what’s possible on Instagram.
Members can use the forum to connect with each other and vote on key decisions about the direction of the Instagram pages. For example, should we create a new Instagram page for a particular instrument or genre? We’ll be guided by what our members say on the forum.
And we’re going to push this online community into the real live world! We’ll be hosting more shows and meet-ups, starting in NYC and LA and then expanding all over. We’ll use the forum to post invites to these members-only events and other exclusive offers.
What does it cost?
We’re keeping the price low. It’s $6 for a month-to-month membership. Or if you take out an annual membership it works out to $5 a month and…. you get 20% off all our merch : )
We wanted to make the membership as accessible as possible to as many musicians as possible. We know from first-hand experience just how hard it can be to get by as a musician, especially if you’re a student.
Why are we doing this?
PickUp has been running since 2015 when Sam started @pickupjazz. Even though the community has grown rapidly since then, we’ve been getting by the whole time on a shoestring budget. Unlike a lot of other Instagram instrument pages, we’ve rarely done paid features (we hate the phrase “DM us for a paid feature”!). We only want to feature the absolute best up and coming musicians.
This has placed some serious limitations on what we’ve been able to do as a team. We would love to run more live shows, hold more talks and meet-ups and partner with more artists to produce high-quality lessons. We just haven’t had enough resources to make it happen.
So a few months ago we sat down with some of our most passionate community members and asked them for their ideas. (Shout out to everyone who helped!). Offering a membership was the one that everyone got the most excited about. It’s a way to focus on the people who value PickUp the most by offering them high quality support and resources and a stronger sense of community.
It’s early days but together we’re going to create a place where a new generation of musicians can learn from each other and get better together. We’re going to be regularly adding a wide range of new lessons and resources, and we’re lining up a bunch of live events. Our focus is on providing you with techniques, styles and advice that you won’t find anywhere else.
We’d love your support to help make this new approach a success! The launch of the membership is a bit of a step into the unknown for us. Every new member that signs on will dramatically increase the success of PickUp, especially in the early days. You can sign up here.
We’d also love it if you could tell your friends and spread the word about the membership on Instagram. The bigger the community, the more we can offer in terms of new lessons, live shows and other events for the community.
Finally, go say hi to other new members in the forum. We’ll be on there everyday. Let us know what you think about the website so far and if there’s anything else you’d like to see.
Thanks for your support! We’re really excited about building this with you and watching the community grow.
Sam and the PickUp Music team.
