Now we’re on to the fun stuff. Let’s take everything you’ve learned so far – technique, theory, and arpeggios – and apply it to four original songs by Will Johnson.
For each song, we have included an at-tempo video, a slower version, TAB, and a backing track for you to download and jam along to.
How to learn these Songs:
1. Listen to the song on repeat. Soak it in.
2. Try to play it by ear (don’t look at the TAB).
3. Pause and slow down the video if you need to, and if you get stuck use the TAB.
4. Practice slowly, then build speed.
While it might be slower for you to learn by ear, it’s a good habit to get into because it helps you develop your ear skills. We recommend only using the TAB if you get stuck or need to double check Will’s fingering. That being said, you don’t have to play the songs exactly as he plays them – use these songs as templates to build on and to develop your own riffs.

Your Turn
Make sure to use #SongSquad and tag @youngteamm on Instagram when you cover one of the songs. That helps us find your covers and feature you. It’s also a nifty way to see what other students are up to.
