Welcome to Part I. In this introductory section, you’ll learn a simple process for developing your voice.
To kick things off, Isaiah shares the story of his musical upbringing.
Isaiah grew up in a family of musicians and started making music at the age of four. At his grandfather’s record store in Chicago, young Isaiah discovered Prince, Michael Jackson, Prince, Toto, and even classical music.
Performing at church was another key part of Isaiah’s musical upbringing—half of each service was musical, so he got a lot of playing time in.
Fast forward a few years, Isaiah was playing with choirs and gospel artists. Then, as word of his talents spread, he started playing with D’Aneglio, Paul Simon, John Mayer and many others.
Advice for you
If your background is different and perhaps not quite as musical as Isaiah’s, don’t worry! Regardless of your upbringing or current situation, you can still surround yourself with music:
- Use YouTube as a learning tool.
- Listen. A lot!
- Don’t limit what you listen to.
In the next lesson Isaiah recommends his favorite albums.
