Welcome! This class has hours of material to work on, so here’s a quick overview of everything before you get started.
(Thanks to Will Forero)
You can jump ahead to any topic you want to learn or move through from start to finish. It’s up to you.
Each section includes lesson videos and examples. We encourage you to spend time on each lesson and apply the ideas before moving on. The hard work is up to you – all good ideas and exercises require time to implement. Emily will introduce the idea, it’s up to you to apply them, and we’ll be here to support in our forum and on Instagram.
In Part I. Chords and Music Theory, Emily will introduce you to music theory and the number system – a handy tool for playing chords in any key.
Emily shows you two fingerstyle grooves in Part II – one of her most requested topics to cover. If you’ve seen Emily’s videos on Instagram, you’ll have a good idea of what you’ll learn.
Lyric writing is a key skill for songwriters. In Part III, you will learn techniques to write compelling and original verses and choruses.
In Part IV, Emily introduces the basics of singing, including exercises and her advice for non-singers looking to develop their voice.
Finally, in Part V, Emily performs instrumental versions of two originals. We’ve included TAB for advanced players looking for challenging fingerstyle songs to learn.
Throughout the course, you’ll find interludes where Emily will share valuable advice on being a well-rounded artist. As a bonus, we asked Emily to perform three stripped-back versions of her songs, so keep an eye out for those.
