Welcome to Guitar For Complete Beginners. Congratulations on taking the first step to learning this awesome instrument!
First, make sure you download your copy of the class notes. This PDF contains every chord diagram and example you’ll learn in this class. You’ll also be provided with on-video notation so you can follow along.
This class will teach the basics of playing guitar. You’ll be guided step-by-step through everything you need to know to start playing right away.
Should I learn acoustic or electric?
Everything in the class works for both types of guitars. Use whichever type of guitar you have access to.
What if my fingers hurt?
It takes a little bit of time to build up finger strength and develop a hard outer coating to protect the tips of your fingers. This will happen on its own, and it will completely end the pain most beginners experience. In the meantime, there are two things you can do. First, don’t press down too hard on the strings. Try pushing down as lightly as you can without the string buzzing. Second, don’t play for too long in one sitting. Practice for half an hour or so each day and build up from there. Before long, you won’t feel any discomfort at all.
Should I complete this class in one sitting?
We encourage you to take the class piece by piece. It’s important to put in time to practice each new chord we teach you because each lesson builds on the last. A little bit every day is by far the best way to learn guitar.
This class has over 40 video lessons. Each video lesson is 2-8 minutes long and focused on one or two key concepts. If a lesson requires you to play, you’ll be provided with notation or diagrams to match exactly what the instructor plays. Pro tip: sometimes using your ears rather than your eyes is the best way to learn.
We’re excited to have you here. Let’s get started with the first lesson.
